Everyday Art and Craft

I’m finding a celebration of color and texture here that is nurturing my artist’s soul like gourmet food. The landscape and gardens are punctuated by saturated floral hues and plates of local fresh fruit present excite the eye and the palette alike.

Homes and shops are painted with vibrant color combinations and are often decorated with hand-painted murals celebrating the features of the local landscape. A bright pink house with turquoise trim and a yellow door that might be considered a garish or over-the-top palette in Washington state appears to glow  in the context of the strong equatorial sunlight of Costa Rica.

ox cart

I speculate the decorative tradition found in these ox carts (once the main transportation when muddy trails had to be navigated with loads of coffee beans to market) that appears to hark back to Spanish or even Moroccan rootsox cart.
